Last week, I drove to Minnesota to visit my family. It was really special to have my family all together again after so long, and I'm grateful that I got to celebrate my nephew Norbert's second birthday with him. This year for his birthday, my sister Miranda and I built him a playhouse! It was a lot of work, but really rewarding to see how much he loves it. She's still adding the finishing touches, but I wanted to share about our time together.
Norbert loved his playhouse so much, he didn't want to go back inside (and it sounds like that's still happening)! His birthday presents from everyone were great as well - lots of fun food themed gifts and water stuff for playing outside. After setting up his water sprinkler, he insisted on bringing each person in for a run through the water, which was really funny. I got to visit with my cousin Josey and my Auntie Cindy as well, and overall it was an amazing trip. I hope that I will get to see everyone again sometime soon, but we'll have to continue to see how this year goes.
I have to give a big shoutout to Miranda on being all in on building the playhouse - she is a boss with power tools! Not only had she already constructed garden beds for her herb garden, she decided to make a couple of chairs for Father's Day as practice for the playhouse. All of her work is impressive, and I couldn't have done this without her. I also need to thank my brother-in-law, Matt, who kept us fed with amazing meals the whole time we worked. Matt made Indian tacos, gnocchi, and worked the grill quite a few times!
Hopefully, my family will be able to come see my garden in person before the harvesting season is over. While I was gone, Valeria took good care of the garden and our pets (thanks honey!). I was very excited to come back and see them, and to see all of the growth in our garden. All of the pepper plants are flowering now, the squash have beautiful yellow blossoms, and two of the tomato plants have gotten their first tomatoes!
I fertilized the garden after I got back, since it's recommended that you fertilize about every month. We're getting a lot of rain here, but a lot of sunshine too, so I think the garden is pretty happy. I can't wait to see it continue to grow!
