It's been getting much cooler over the past few weeks. The other morning when I took Joni outside, I could even see my breath! I can't believe it's cooling down so quickly, but I suppose fall is here. It's been cold enough at night that I decided it was time to bring the majority of the tomatoes in. I cut back the tomatoes as they were quite overcrowded again, and I found even more than I thought I would. There were several big boy tomatoes and lots of romas and San Marzanos too. They are all laying out in a sunny window and should ripen within the next week or two.

I'm glad we'll have some more tomatoes coming, because we've been enjoying them. I made another cacio e pepe style pasta with a bunch of our cherry tomatoes, and it did not disappoint. We've also been having more fresh tomatoes with bread and ají, and damn, those last few banana peppers are hot! We've really loved the banana peppers and shishito peppers, and the store bought ones just don't compare. So, I decided to bring both of those pepper plants inside to see if they might produce a few more indoors. I've never tried transitioning anything from the garden back inside, but I figure, what's the harm? They won't survive outside anyways, so I might as well give it a shot! I think I might bring in the jalapeños and mint too, since those are always nice to have on hand and are still doing well.
I'm excited to see what happens with the peppers inside. I added some shishito peppers to my pineapple fried rice last week, and it was a nice touch. I have a couple of new acorn squash growing too, but I'm not sure if they'll get big enough before it gets cold. I took a peek at the potatoes in the old bale, and I was surprised to see a large potato in there! I'm not sure just how long to wait on those, and I might decide to take them out soon. I've only seen the one so far, but it looks promising.
In the next few weeks, I hope to continue cooking up more fresh veggies and enjoying the cozy sweater weather. I'll be breaking down the garden as more plants are done producing and reflecting on what worked well, and what I need to change moving forward.
